“For next class, go to my exhibit
find this painting, study it, come back
and tell me why it’s good”
The students return next class
“Bold, evocative!” says one
“Unconventional!” says another
“Perfectly balanced in its appeal
to the disorderly, a testament to the
transcendence of human imagination!”
The more praise his students offered
The more broadly he smiled
for he knew they could not see
the emperor's new clothes
yet would continue to praise
a cutout from his painter's smock
